A Gift Poem by Barry Middleton

A Gift

Rating: 5.0

you gave to me a gift
I wish to soon repay
you saved me from despair
to help me find my way

although you do not know
you think the debt is yours
your love was recompense
and evermore endures

therefore I grant you this
I must reward you still
perhaps beyond the dusk
when evening brings a chill

my golden star will blaze
a beacon shining through
to guide the midnight path
and light the way for you

I enjoy this one, Barry. So nostalgic for something once lost but never forgotten.

Not completely lost but an unrequited love. Sometimes I think unfulfilled love is the best because it never deteriorates or dies.
