A Farewell To Shadow Poem by Francis Duggan

A Farewell To Shadow

No pets allowed where I do live at today
So my black ageing persian cat Shadow I had to give away
She now is a mouser for Alex, Alexander and Sue
And she is a good mouser for to give her fair due.

But in killing creatures cats do never feel wrong
And she has robbed Nature's garden of a few small birds of song
In the feline World no such a thing as live and let live
And for their natural ways them one has to forgive.

But with Shadow I did feel very sad to part
And I gave her to Sue with sadness in my heart
She has found another new home far from her Hometown
And in her new surroundings she will settle down.

Cats are blessed with nine lives as some are known to say
And with animal loving Sue Shadow will be okay
She will help with ridding the mouse plague in Sue, Alex and Alexander's house
Since Shadow is one who knows how to kill a mouse.
