A Dark Christmas Version #1 Poem by Frank Avon

A Dark Christmas Version #1

12.25.2001

This holly branch
in black and white -
may it enhance
this year's dark night.

Sometimes God's grace
in whispers sings
and we embrace
more common things

that hint at Light.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
We always send a poem with our Christmas cards, but after 9/11, it was very difficult. We chose a card which featured a b/w photo of a holly branch. I drafted several versions of a 2001 holiday poem. I must admit I don't know which one we finally sent - or whether any of the ones of which I now have the drafts.
