A Child's Dream Poem by Matt Brown

A Child's Dream

Would you sit upon that magic carpet with me and share visions of run-away trains, bike riding in the night time rain, dragons and secret passageways. If you feel you might fall and spiral towards uncertainty she'll take your hand, squeeze you in her arms and softly caress your hair with a mother's touch.

But get lost in these dreams, where you can fade into the never ending lights which line the streets. The white's and oranges of the street lamps make you feel safe from an impending storm. You can feel loved and untouchable like something is watching over you from the stars.

Now you are gliding rapidly around twisting corners and through mysterious pathways without fear. In the distance you hear a ghostly hum drawing you nearer towards the light, drawing you in like a siren and all of a sudden you feel helpless.

It's time to wake up, wake up beside the fire. Space and time return with a whoosh and a bang and the sky shakes and people sing and play.
