A Certificate Of Discharge Poem by Maggie Tong

A Certificate Of Discharge

</>They took him away with a smile on their face
Promised and excited him with talks of bravery
Before he had time to ask questions of the place
They'd already taken him to the belly of slavery
He is now fitted with green uniforms and a silver and black gun
Told he was responsible for the victory of his country
A plane seems to fly pass, before he knew it the fight had begun
He sees something falling towards his mate Andy

Arriving to find him in three pieces, Andy cries for his mum
Tears run down both their faces admitting the reality now hurts
Fears run through both their minds
the thought could very well make them burst
He picks up his mate and tries to find a corner of safety
But noises of the untimely commotion make the ground unsteady

The daunting sirens have now stopped ringing
Andy has now passed on
Beliefs of the soldier who died in honour
he can tell them now they're simply wrong
His sadness and memories are stupidly offered a kind regard
But all that is left of their betrayed lives are certificates of death and discharge.
