8,000m Poem by Phil Anderson

8,000m

In frozen wastelands, steep and cold
The mountaineers climb high and bold,
Rock and ice, treacherous foes
Deadly dangers that so few know.

With every step the fear can grow,
As wind howls with an eerie glow
It echoes through each mountain pass,
Hints of danger, a warning to surpass.

The ice is thin, the snow is deep,
One wrong move, eternal sleep,
The summit beckons, its beauty dire,
A tempting call may not transpire.

For those who dare to climb this height,
Be warned, be cautious, don't lose sight
Of the danger that lurks below,
For the cost of failure is a fatal blow.

So if you choose to climb the peak,
Remember the dangers that you must seek,
For in the end it's not the climb,
But the journey, and the life beyond time.
