8.Weight On My Shoulder Poem by Jeff Law

8.Weight On My Shoulder

If I had a butterfly for every feeling I felt for you
I could fly past the sun, around the stars and lay upon the moon
But every time I see you, my wings get slightly torn
And my dreams slip away as my flight comes back down

It wasn’t long ago that on you I first laid my eyes
And with your beauty the way it shone through all the cloudiest skies
But I am not the kind of man to try and hurt a person
But the situation at the moment, you’ve really got my heart hurting

What an amazing woman that this universe created
Given just a chance with you, the opportunity I would not have hesitated
Meeting you, is something that I never anticipated
Eternity and longer, for you I would have waited

I have respect for you and also for your man
And to break you up or try is never of mine a plan
I cannot lie to you; I have really fallen down
Will you stop and lend me your hand; and pick me up from off the ground

People will tell me that they have no idea
But if your feelings are strong then this sign will become clear
I am too scared to tell you incase I push you and you fall
I would rather have you as a friend than not have you at all

The whole point of this letter, is to put my feelings at rest
And to tell you how I feel and get some heartache of my chest
But please don’t push me away and ignore me once again
If you do not feel the same then please, please remain my friend

The happiest times are the ones when I’m asleep
And the weight of my heart is taken from beneath my feet
But with you if you are my partner, you can help me share the load
And with that weight taken of my shoulder, any distance we can go

I don’t expect for you to call me or come running into my arms
And I am not using my words for an advantage for my charms
I am only using this because from my mouth I can’t swallow the truth
And the words they sting when they brush my tongue and rub against my tooth

I just want to know if you feel the same, in the smallest or biggest way
And if I break like a smashed window, then I will keep fixing my window pain
But if you tell me there is nothing then respect is what you deserve
And I will leave you from my words and continue holding my nerve

The hardest lines are the final ones, so I choose my words so carefully
If nothing comes from this then I tried my best and at least you shared with me
Good luck in your future whether I play a part or if I simply don’t
But forget you now I can’t and stop thinking of you now I won’t.
