#230 A New Star In My Sky Poem by Jimmie Arrington

#230 A New Star In My Sky

I’m seated upon a park bench,
One hour into a new day.
With each minute, I’m another inch
Further and further away.
Away from the world and its cares,
Away from a routine life,
Far away from glares and snares
As if I’m under the knife.
Here I’m safe and here I’m sound,
Where I’m never unwillingly found.

Again I gaze into the clear,
As I have in nights gone by,
And so it would appear,
There’s a new star in my sky.
Encircled by black, she shines bright
And twinkles as I stare.
I wonder how others spend their night
Without a glance or care.
But then again it’s no surprise,
Most go through night with closed eyes.

Her light warms my frozen heart,
Her purpose has been fulfilled.
Though she and I are miles apart,
My soul has become distilled.
And if one wish could come true,
One wish to keep as mine,
Right next to her, I’d stick like glue
And there forever shine;
A brand new star, shining bright,
Just like the one I found tonight.
