#284 Cupcakes And Brownies Poem by Jimmie Arrington

#284 Cupcakes And Brownies

For a time I thought the world was kind,
I thought I’d do my time with ease.
An optimistic view left the past behind,
Like a swift wind through the trees.
Maybe I was ignorant, maybe a bit blind,
It’s not all cupcakes and brownies.
I’m not saying I was wrong, but maybe
I’m just seeing things a little differently.

The youthful bliss that once held me
Has been peacefully put to bed.
A once unperturbed and tranquil sea
Is a raging and rampant monster instead.
As it turns out there is no guarantee
For those living or those now dead.
But before settling in fear and regret,
Maybe there is still hope yet.

I hear a bell on a distant breeze,
Ringing, humming, echoing bright.
I hear hope riding in waves of threes,
Taking with pride a victorious flight.
Perhaps Love has quashed the disease
Chilling souls throughout the night.
Yes, I was blind to the slightest degree
But now I see things a little differently.
