#214 I’m Slipping Away Poem by Jimmie Arrington

#214 I’m Slipping Away

You can’t swear you’ll never leave
And thus my heart begins to grieve
With every word you say.
You can’t give you, I won’t give me,
I won’t love eternally.
I’m slipping away.

You’re here today but tomorrow’s blank,
A mighty ship, to the bottom sank.
Just promise me you’ll stay.
The solid vessel has a gaping hole,
Wounded faith, a damaged soul.
I’m slipping away.

You listen but you never hear,
You’re close but you are never near.
What sorrow, what dismay.
I can’t trust your shifty eyes,
Your poor defenses, your alibis.
I’m slipping away.

The darkened clouds cast shadows
On rooftops, through glass windows.
It rains here every day.
The weather in my heart is cold,
Times are hard, it’s getting old.
I’m slipping away.

I try but fail, you can’t mold hardened clay.
I’m slipping here, I’m slipping away.
