2012 Is Gone

Rating: 5.0

2012 is gone

2012 is gone and 2013 is born.
2012 the year we once anticipated,
now aged, fatigued, passing on
ready to join shrouded years belated.

I look back in gratitude and regret,
for things I did right and those I did wrong,
for decisions made i'm proud of
and those gross like cow dung.

2012, I peer into her weary eyes
behold: subsidy saga, inane bombings,
rife of extortions, idiocy in quasi-leadership,
plane crashes and widespread sobbings,

fallacy flowing like fountain from
fallows talking tongue in cheek
clad in royal regalia ruthlessly
ransacking riches(tis all they seek) ,

naive names nominated to defend our green,
frail shoulders on which we hung our hopes,
trudged home, heads buried in shame-medal-less
(a national let-down though we took no roles) .

Barely a handful of 'good' I see in her eyes
but a barrage of 'bad' cloud her archive;
in all things, though, all glory to God,
at least, through thick and thin we did survive.

2012 farewell, your end is come
pave way for a year anew
fraught amply with tidings good
and our blessings which are due.

Happy new year in advance
to Oluwaseun and all poets
may your ink never finish,
may your muse never beef you.

Yes, it often looks when reviewing past times that we struggle to find the nuggets of good. I guess we'll just have to keep drilling without suffering an avalanche of the bad things!
