How I love you Mother
You are the cradle of my birth
And the pride of my youth

When I was ten and seven, yet younger
I thought life was just a bed of roses
For all I desired I had many a thousand poses
And never did I thirst nor hunger

Hold on to your reputation
Lest, it will fly
And night and day beneath the sky
Shelter it from every intrusion

Set your light, Child
Let it shine for men
In the night of the world
Let it so shine

When I see a star in the sky
I remember my life here on earth
How I came limbs too shy
