Norma Southwood Poems

My garden is a place of rest,
the place on Earth I love the best.
Down among the trees and flowers,
I spend my happiest waking hours.

This is a true story. I remember the details from a book I once read. The inspiriation for the poem was the Japenese once more launching their whaling fleet. Please support Greenpeace and other organisations which campaign against the abuse of our planet and its creatures.

We travel the globe around each year,
living our lives so well.

Norma Southwood Biography

I am almost 58 years old, and have always loved poetry. I am a single woman, currently living with my mother as her carer. I also work part time as a nurse. I never married, and have no children. (Thank goodness!) I love anything to do with nature, animals, the environment, books, music and poetry. My favourite flower is a pansy. Favourite colour is pink. Favourite singers, Joni Mitchell, Lenard Cohen. Favourite people, Charles and Camilla. Favourite poet, impossible to say. Favourite joke: - A guy goes to a fancy dress party with a woman on his back. A fellow guest asks him what he is supposed to be. Our guy answers, 'A turtle.' The other guest is bemused. 'What are you doing with that woman on your back? ' he asks. 'Oh, ' replies our guy, 'that's Michelle.')

The Best Poem Of Norma Southwood

My Garden.

My garden is a place of rest,
the place on Earth I love the best.
Down among the trees and flowers,
I spend my happiest waking hours.

There's a mist of colour and a sea of scent,
a bit of Heaven that God has lent.
Why search and spend in seeking pleasure?
Your garden is your greatest treasure.

Each bursting bloom's a miracle to me,
if only everyone could see.
No need for fighting, rage and wars,
go into the garden, and shut your back doors.

Leave your chair, turn off the p.c.,
come into the garden all glory to see.
Hear the birds sing in a burst of praise,
and thank God for the gift of Summer days.

I love Norma Southwood, she was one of my favourite people when we trained as nurses together. I have such fond memories of her, love of poems, art, flowers and nature. Today I am thinking of her and dont understand why. Where did these intense feelings come from to get in touch with her. I am sad but as I look into my tiny garden, I feel her love of nature running through my veins and this gives me hope she is still alive. x
