A man said to the universe: "Sir, I exist!" --- Stephen Crane

You made me the human tragedy;
You made me the human comedy.

The acid rains have come and gone
Leaving nuclear winters
Chasing the autumns of our lives.

Me ...

A man said to the universe: "Sir, I exist!" --- Stephen Crane

You made me the human tragedy;
You made me the human comedy.

God made me black and comely:
The essence of His beauty;

The recurring decimal
Of your conscience.
Raindrops ... God cried today; His tears
Fertilizing Mother Earth's womb

The wet smell of essence
Saturated the air; the moist
Breeze blew breath of new life Into dried hopes ... wilted
In the desert of despair.

The rainy season of life
Has begun; and with new suns,
Maybe ... just maybe ... love

Will leave hollowed
Footprints in the mud.
