Maureen Adair Poems

The blood seeps the pavement, a deep red
why must the blood of the innocent be shed?

the lifeless bodies, the unseeing eyes
...

Seductive trickery, a mean joke,
are the reasons I'm falling for this bloke.

Oh! An idiot am I!

Lord they are hurting, in pain,
they refuse to leave this dark torcherous rain.

they refuse to turn and see the sunlight,
to grasp your hand and be pulled out of the night.
...

eyes shut tight, hands clenched in anticipation,
the little girl to wish her hearts desire is in preparation.

you see her small lips whispering pleading,
the wind carries her desires, knowing that her heart is needing.
...

What is this choking feeling
so dark and menacing filling my entire being.

An ache a longing within my soul
...

A little girl with bright, brown eyes,
full of questions, hurt by lies.

So small, fragile, hungry, weak,
she looks about herself, what is it she might seek?
...

A grin taking over my face,
the laughter I cannot stifle, Cannot erase.

I give in, throw my head back and laugh, headless to all who see,
my laughter echoes and fills the air, I am so free.

The Earth Weeps

The blood seeps the pavement, a deep red
why must the blood of the innocent be shed?

the lifeless bodies, the unseeing eyes
the earth weeps, corrupted by lies.

the war rages on destroying all, in clarity,
to witness this carnage is to risk losing sanity.

homes burned, families shed their rivers of tears
the scars upon their souls will last for months. years.

the pain, the loss, seeps like a poison into one's soul
soon all in the chaos, spins out of control.

Where is the light, the salvation?
Why must it all continue, this desperation?

When will man wipe the blood off his hands
and cease to love the savage cruelty demands?
