Josh Sternberg Poems

Freedom speaks and freedom sings
Songs streaked with pain and truth
Astonished me from the rings
Of bells and subterranean things
...

Unknown space, unknown air
Undefined, when darkness stares
Unknown time and unkempt hair
Unknown boys without a care
...

How can life be measured
In greatness or in pleasure?
Or other things we treasure
...

I love the first day of Spring
And the smell of fresh cut grass
I love driving with the top down
And going way too fast
...

Amber locks of amazing hair
but not lovelier than lilacs - no!
Or honeysuckle, you are more fair
than small white babies breath
...

Once again
I find myself in a poignant moment
Under a streetlight's glow
Back and forth, the moths duel for warmth

Freedom

Freedom speaks and freedom sings
Songs streaked with pain and truth
Astonished me from the rings
Of bells and subterranean things
My time has come to get back
Action speaks louder than words of mine
My home my soul and my life's track
Actions speak louder than words of mine
In my grasp is where I'll find
This fight will be difficult
And I might be forced away
From bad intentions and tumult
And those who would rather stay
Acknowledge me for all my sins
My faults, and truths, and scars
Separate them accordingly
And read then out loud in bars
Beacuse when I have nothing left
Only then can I succeed
My hair unkempt and face bereft
Finally knowing what I need
Freedom will be in my grasp
I will have it once again
I just have to keep to task
And not forget my friends.
