One In A Million Foster Carer

You held my hands since I could barely stand

When it was dark
You paved the way for me to walk
Sometimes I have a temper tantrum
Or even throw things at random
You let me know you understand
And that for me you had a plan

Oh one in a million carer, my foster carer!

When for whatever reason which does not matter
You stepped in to be mother
And you stepped in to be my father
But you are not my father and you are not my mother
But you gave me a sense of belonging like no other
And you taught me all the things that really do matter

Oh one in a million carer, my foster carer!

Sometimes I act like I do not care
And I’d rather be anywhere else than in your care
Sometimes I’ve even brought you close to tears
When I’ve slammed the door and stormed upstairs
But no matter what you are always there
And through the sad times and through the bad
You shaped every dream that I ever had

Oh one in million carer, my foster carer!

When I am in my mood
And often behave oh so rude
You held on and held out
And showed me what life is all about
You watched over me like a lark
And I know you job is no walk in the park

Oh one in a million carer, my foster carer!

You taught me the joys of healthy eating
And the values of healthy living
Taking care of me is no easy task
And all that you do for me is more than any child could ask
But you never once complained
And I must tell you true that your work is not in vain

Oh one in a million carer, my foster carer!

You always made sure I am immaculate in dress
And of the things I need I have the best
And even though I have not given you flowers or card
I know that working with me has been quite hard
You always let me know that I am a child that matter
By every single word you ever uttered

Oh my one in a million carer, my foster carer!

When I hurt and often despised my birth
You never failed to let me see how much I am worth
You sparked my interest in all the books that I’ve ever read
You taught me to be thankful for my daily bread
You helped through all the things that I dread
And today my feelings about you I want to spread

My one in a million carer, my foster carer!

I often wondered why you do the things that you do
And whether you really love me true
So I often test you by the things I do
But you saw through me too
And taught me good lessons quite a few
As only someone with the right motivation could do.

You one in a million carer, my foster carer!

For since you answered the call
You have never looked back at all
You understand that the life of a child looked after can be rough
But oh my carers you are made of strong stuff
And today I am here to celebrate the work you do
And to let you know I am proud of you

My one in a million, my foster carer!
