Elena Blackwood Poems

You ask me, ‘how can you write such dark poetry? '
My question is how can you not?
It is so much easier to see the dark
Than the light.
...

My mind travels here and there,
but my heart,
it doesn't move.
My plans, wishes,
...

I have a thirst I can not quench,
A hunger I cannot control.
It's tempting,
tempting me to want things I shouldn't want,
...

I look around and see
no one.
No one is there to help me,
no one is there to see if I'm okay.
...

Every Night, When I close my eyes,
I feel fright, imagining the cries.
The cries of my loved, lost beloveds,
loyal to the end, when they lost their lives.
...

I walk around these crowded halls
Feeling so alone.
I am here in body, yet not in mind
and my heart seems to groan.

Don't Worry

You ask me, ‘how can you write such dark poetry? '
My question is how can you not?
It is so much easier to see the dark
Than the light.
Writing about fears,
Hatreds,
Emotions,
it is like breathing,
Yet trying to figure out how to put happiness into a sentence,
That is like trying to drink from a siv;
You may find a little speck of what you are looking for,
But it slips away within the blink of an eye.

Writing the exhaustion you feel,
The sadness aching in your bones,
The numbness of your heart;
This all comes natural.
To tell everyone that I was happy for a moment
Is like trying to point out a shooting star after it has already disappeared.

Why do you expect me to be happy?
The weight of stress brings me back down to earth,
Where I realize that happiness is fleeting,
Yet sadness is inevitable.

Don't worry, be happy?
I worry about being happy.

I worry about everything.
