Delmar Koehn Poems

Like the swelling wave, like the rising Sun
Is the quest of man, when it's just begun
And it rolls along, by God's mighty power
Quietly conquering, Ship and shower.

Oh September! With your blue skies,
With happy, misty, fireside eyes,
And fireside song, and flannel shirts,
Your romance is the kind that hurts.
...

Twas a cold clear night
And the stars shone bright
As the shadows lurked
Round the snow-drifts white
...

When cold and bitter North winds blow
And clouds look like they're full of snow
Into the house I'd rather go
And pull up by the fire
...

He paused a bit to take a breath. The days were flying by!
At first his heart begins to sigh.
Where are they going? Feeble days...
But, ere the sigh is out of air, he smiles.

The old man sits in his rocking chair.
It squeaks while he rocks, but he doesn't care.
His eyes twinkle blue, and his hair is white.
And oh! The tales he could tell, If he might.

The Quest And The Answer

Like the swelling wave, like the rising Sun
Is the quest of man, when it's just begun
And it rolls along, by God's mighty power
Quietly conquering, Ship and shower.

But there comes a time, when the Sun sinks low
And swell of life is breaking slow
That the waves crash down on a Silent shore
They seethe, reach out, and then are no more

But the power of God continues on
In the ripples cast back to the coming dawn
And only what's done for Christ will last
When he comes again to judge the past-

So let us in our lives today
Seek out the true and hidden way
Let's give our all unto the Lord
For He alone gives the reward.
