He was sitting at the table
as I looked in his eyes
he was staring up at me
and gave his sweetest smile
...

I'm sinking. There's no grasp I can hold onto.
I am drowning in the pain around me.
It slowly engulfs me as I go deeper.
I am fading....

Daddy's Letters

He was sitting at the table
as I looked in his eyes
he was staring up at me
and gave his sweetest smile
I can tell he had something brewing on his mind.

Well as his eyes grew serious
I could see
the blue eyed boy
who was looking at me
was about to ask me something one more time

When is Daddy coming back home?
Well don't he love us momma
Why'd he leave us here all alone?
He said he'd only be gone for a little while
Mom I miss him so, he always made me smile
When is daddy coming back home?

Well what can you say
to a seven year old
who loves his daddy
and misses him so
except to get his daddy's letters out once again.

You know your daddy's wrote you so many times
telling you that he loves you
and he's doing just fine
and how this war he's in is full of sin

When is daddy coming back home
Well don't he love us momma
Why'd he leave us here all alone
He said he'd only be gone for a little while
Mom I miss him so, he always made me smile
When is daddy coming back home

Well a weeks gone by
and I knew right away
That we received a letter
From his daddy today
Cause there he came a runnin' with a great big grin

Momma guess what daddy wrote us today
He told us that he loved us and he's on his way
to give you a big kiss and see his little man.

Momma daddy's coming back home
Now we'll never again have to be here all alone
He said he loved us very much and that he couldn't wait
to get home and see our smiling face
Momma daddy's coming back home.
