Anthony Fortunato Poems

having never done what I should
doing things the hard way
only to find I come up short.
settling for less
...

I don't know
if I can jot stuff down
Make it sound pretty
by turning words round
...

Some people go missing
they aren't really gone
they just fade away
we start to not matter
...

Down on Dearney
hope falls slanted
through crooked slats
of tin houses
...

Distant chasms of black glass
hum lowly in the moonlight
birds overhead and
long legged animals
...

If you must know
its always been you
from the day I was ten
and you came and sit upon my lap
...

Dan the Danish heads into town
buying pumpkins and flowers
whatever's around
Popping in and saying hello
...

Same simple emotions
Rubbed raw again
Same stupid mistake
I'll make again
...

We have an agreement she said
He does what he wants
and so do I
I stays out of his hair
...

All the beautiful things
All the horrors we create
Gives me the feel that I don't
Don't know what's out there
...

Halfway home I stop by the dark part of the street
looking down where gravel meets dirt
I wonder why I'm going home
I don't want to
...

A full clapping laugh
I had as I thought
People base their idea of success
On what situation they are in
...

A string of thoughts
made of gossamer threads
knots of ideas here and there
strung together by one common theme
...

Morning
Where thought is much more heavy and drastic
Trying to remember if there is any reason
to feel this frightened
...

SSSSHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhh! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
The walls have ears...
They even see you coming
trying not to be seen
...

16.

Outside
Sleak sewers and ditches drain the water out the water ways
Dust is a human condition
We shelter our lives around the buildup of dust
...

Dropping down
to the darkest corner
of a big cardboard box
...

Maybe Not Now Maybe Never

having never done what I should
doing things the hard way
only to find I come up short.
settling for less
expecting less and less
learning to take it
like a bad back
learning to take the pain
learning you can't do that anymore
instead of the brain
the heart is softly, slowly beaten flat
will becomes powder
easily blown out by the slightest wind
dampened fully by one tear
and you say 'I should have followed my dreams'
and I say your dreams are just that
hollow trunks to keep your hope in
illusions to be sought after
fantasized over
passing daydreams
and days when everything was OK.
when will it be my turn
to feel like that again
hoping
one day
maybe
but not now
maybe
but maybe not
