Andrew J. Koehn Poems

It’s hard to part from friends afar,
To leave and go away from them.
We never know the circumstance,
The where and when we’ll gather next
...

Take no thought for your life,
What’s to eat or drink or wear.
Life is more than food or raiment.
That’s what God says. Do you trust him?

Lord, forgive me, I know what I’ve done.
I’ve trampled the blood of Your precious Son.
I’ve squandered the grace You’ve given to me.
I know that I’ve sinned and I want to be free.
...

I trudge this lonely, shad’wy path
With darkness hanging all around.
My steps are slow, my head hangs low.
It seems my hands with chains are bound
...

We look for Christ this time of year.
We make a 'Christmas Spirit' search.
We want to feel a touch from Him.
We seek a sign that He is here.

Six-thirty,
Southbound.
Look left.
See that?

Short poems.

Sometimes my caffeinated mind acts a little hyper.
Bubbling and perking in my coffeepot of Think,
This poem-brew I pour from the carafe of my pen.
(I know that it's strong when my cup's filled with ink!)

Pain Of Separation

It’s hard to part from friends afar,
To leave and go away from them.
We never know the circumstance,
The where and when we’ll gather next

Who knows the changes that will come?
The moves we make in life ahead.
The Lord will lead; if wise, we heed.
(My friends; stay on that path that’s marked.)

Yes, when we part, we may go back
To join our fam’ly in our home.
And I agree, that is our spot,
Our lot in life, our place to fill.

We don’t—and can’t—forget those friends.
They’re far away, in distant states.
They live their lives; we live our own.
We call them, write them: keep in touch.

And then, sometimes, when fortune smiles
We get together, reunite.
We see how time has changed each one,
Catch up on news, have good old times

We see their face and hear their voice.
It’s good to be with them again,
Meet ones that make their fam’ly now.
But then we must again depart

This constant parting makes me sad,
But then I think of promises
Made by the One that loves us most:
“I go to make a place for you”

His plan gets clearer than before.
Things make more sense than at first glance.
There is a reason parting hurts:
It makes us long for Heaven’s shore.

That place is perfect, we all know.
And at this time one thing shines bright,
Our group of friends around the throne
Is through with separation pain.
