Allison Hankins Poems

The wind blew through the trees like laughter come un-done,
You picked me up and brought me out into the blazing sun.
I felt the heat and began to dance to express that I felt free,
You followed me and kept the beat with your hands and then joined me.
...

You know that feeling when you know it’s real?
When you can’t completely explain how you feel?

When you constantly think about their loving face?
...

When you asked me what I think of us, here's what went through my mind:

happiness
truthfulness

What The Morning Brings

In the morning, the sun wakes up to have his daily stretch,
the birds wake up to warm up their voices so they can continue to sing,
...

I'm sorry that I'm not perfect,
I'm sorry I make mistakes,
I'm sorry I'm not the perfect child,
But can't you love me for who I am?
...

The music played ever so softly in the background,
I slipped into your arms even though I don't know how.

I felt so protected, so overcome with your love,
...

You know, I'd think you would've gotten the message by now...
I love you and I want you constantly!
You seem to always have things that get in the way of 'us' time.
Can't you just put me first?
...

The moon,
You're peacefulness shows how I want to feel, how I sometimes force myself to feel for his sake, and mine.
The sun,
You're blazes reflect my feelings, my anger and my frustration about this.
...

Why does it rain on those sunny beach days?
Why does running or dancing in the rain always make you feel better?

Why does the radio play sad songs on your bad days when you'd rather be distracted?
...

You've found me in the darkness,
Wrapped me in your arms,
Picked me up from ashes,
And taken me from harm.
...

I've heard so many love songs,
Sang a couple too,
But none of those lyrics campare to anything I feel when I'm with you.

My mind tends to wander in ten different directions at once,
It never concentrates on just one thing it's always in a mess.

It contemplates on all subjects some that matter, some that don't,

This Dance

The wind blew through the trees like laughter come un-done,
You picked me up and brought me out into the blazing sun.
I felt the heat and began to dance to express that I felt free,
You followed me and kept the beat with your hands and then joined me.
We danced far into the night even though the wind chilled us so,
It soon became clear to me that what I saw in you touched my soul.
I peered into your deepening eyes and felt like I was in a trance,
I then felt that I'd fallen in love and I did not want to stop this dance.
This dance, this wonderful dance, this wonderful spirit lifting dance.....
