Next To You Poem by Justin Evett

Next To You

Rating: 5.0

The outside storm approaches as the clock strikes ten
bringing forgotten life to the darkened house.
It echo's through the hall and in to that room,
that while i know it's there I can't yet enter.
As I approach the door makes no sound,
and once open I approach you lying motionless, silent,
in the same scene that now plagues my mind for eternity.
The room seems to gain shades of black ever so slightly
as the clock echo's once again, but yet, the sound slowly fades.
I saw the blackened figure coming towards you,
as he crept ever so quietly behind, dagger in hand.
I made ever so much effort to cry, to scream out!
But yet some how you heard me not.
I tried to stop him but seeing his face strikes my mind with fear.
His appearance, those features, I've seen them before, but where?
As he reaches into his pocket,
I hear one last sound before he pulls the trigger
at the barrel to his own throat,
then the room goes dark and my mind goes black.
Now i lie here, gun in hand,
in the pool of my own blood next to you.
And as the clock strikes midnight,
and that last sound echo's endlessly through my head,
my soul lies emptily in shear darkness for eternity.
Next to you...
