My Maria Poem by Michael Walker

My Maria

Rating: 5.0

She's wading over wind and wave,
Waiting for her father's grave,
Waiting for a soul to save,
Wading, waiting, for a wave.

'My Maria, can you see me?
Waving for you from the grave?
My Maria, can you free me?
From my sin, my soul to save? '

She's praying in the chapel.
She's kneeling in the wood.
She'd never eat an apple,
If it did not feel good.

'My Maria, can you see me?
Waving for you from the grave?
My Maria, can you free me?
From my sin, my soul to save? '

He's standing in the doorway.
He stabs her, here and there.
But all that she can do is pray
That he would never dare.

'My Maria, can you see me?
Waving for you from the grave?
My Maria, can you free me?
From my sin, my soul to save? '

She suffers in the silence.
She thirsts, yet cannot drink.
A victim of the violence,
The lily does not shrink.

'My Maria, can you see me?
Waving for you from the grave?
My Maria, can you free me?
From my sin, my soul to save? '

Now, she is an angel
Visiting the jail
To heal the hearts most painful,
For her prayers cannot fail.

My Maria, you can see me,
Waving for you from the grave.
My Maria, you can free me
From my sin, my soul to save.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Kumarmani Mahakul 06 July 2017

She is wading, waiting, for a wave and waiting for a soul to save. Waiting for father's grave brings agony and sorrow acquires mind. This poem is very thought provoking and this expresses grief and joy. Saint Maria Goretti is honoured through this poem who is patroness of purity. This is excellently penned and shared here....10

God bless you, Kumarmani. That is exactly what I attempted to represent.
