How Deep Is Your Love? Poem by Benoni Chortle

How Deep Is Your Love?

I’m the master of disappointment

I’m weak, proud and arrogant

I’m fickle and easily bent

I’m full of complaints and rants

How deep is your love for me?

I curse and hurt a brother

Why would anyone bother?

To a love a wretched man like me

A blind man who cannot see

How deep is your love for me?

I lie and deceive

A man of lust and hate

But I you have received

To save me when in you I put my faith

How deep is your love for me?

Your love is deeper than the depths of the ocean

Unfathomable, unchanging, and unthinkable

That you, the creator of the universe would send his son

His son to die and save a monster like me

How deep is your love for me?

You see the depths of my heart

Yet you love me anyway

You knew me before my birth

Paid the price that I could never pay

How deep is your love for me?

Your love is overwhelming

It uncontrollably makes my heart sing

You drown me with your grace

Your creations sing your praise

How deep is your love for me?

You are all-powerful and all-knowing

Yet you chose to save someone like me

In your grace and love I’m sinking

Like a ship in the heart of the sea

Oh how deep is your love for me?
