Fireman Poem by David Beckham

Fireman

Rating: 5.0

The things we do for love
Could sometimes leave one perplexed and dazed
With no crystal ball to decide which way to go
And no soothsayer coming to your help
Or gypsy to read your palms
You are left with no choice but to look within yourself
And find answers
For all your academic prowess
There is not a place in class where you are taught
What is love?
Or how to deal with relationships?
No, there isn’t just one
So when things hit the roof in your relationship
What do you do?
You start to wonder
Who do you go to?
Family, friends?
There you are alone at that moment
Keeping your feelings close to self
Looking stoned and confused
Looking out the window and seeing nothing
Wishing you had all the answers
But you clearly don’t
You are about to make what might be
The biggest decision in your life
Have this premise in mind as you follow along
That’s where this love poem begins

You wanted marriage so bad and I wanted one too
I had no problem with that
And after 3 odd years of a great relationship
It came down to this:
I, the fireman
You, in a house on fire
The heat I can feel from outside
The question!
“Go in and save her”
“Or stay out in shame”
“In shame? ”
There is only one moral thing to do
Only one ethical thing to seems right
“Where is love in all of this? ”
I could be the hero!
But I didn’t feel like I was prepared enough to take that risk...
Without a suit...
I might never make it out alive?
Is love blind?
Love is not blind!
Am I taking the easy way out?
Probably yes
All the bickering and fighting within the family
Was hard to ignore
Everyone was fighting everyone
But she and I loved each other
And there I sat …
It came down to this moment:
Go down on one knee and pop the question?
Nope! Not happening!
It would be foolish to neglect everything I had seen
I see trouble
Who sees fire and intentionally puts there hands in it?
If marriage is about families
Then I should choose carefully who I want to marry
And so, after 3 odd years, I made a decision
“Sorry, but we are not getting married”

Wow, I looked at the title and passed it up twice. Then decided to read it. I am sorry I did pass it by. Great write, complicated and so brutally honest. I read it twice so I didn't miss anything. Great wite with some great lines. Wow....
