Brown Sugar Poem by Warren Augustus de Guzman

Brown Sugar

So, so long have I thought of this day,
Upon which you’d grace me with your presence.
On such an occasion I would not
Be caught with nothing witty to say.

I would look once more, sugar, on you,
Your sultry dark red lips and sweet brown skin,
And, for your dear, dear love, I would not
Hesitate, whatever it takes, I’d do.

And should the same, sad outcome occur,
And your lips would utter those hateful words,
Cry a single white tear, I would not
For I would still love you Brown Sugar.
