Bright Lights Poem by aleah garris

Bright Lights

I run to the side of the house, breathe and wait.
Light clicks on, and my heart rate drops; this is the end.
Another slow breathe comes out of my lips. Its cold.
Light switches off, and then my heart can start to come alive.
As im coming back to life, my legs start to work.
I feel numb.
The night air is smacking me hard, im running.
Just to get out of eye sight.
I can walk at a slow pace now.
Really there is no home.
I try to run there and there, and i dont know where ill end up.
Theres got to be a safe house.
Maybe ill find the safe house along these city streets.
The roads are lightend up, and personally i think i have already found it.
Along these streets of bright lights.
