Your Average Amateur Writer Poem by Francis Duggan

Your Average Amateur Writer

Your average amateur writer I've dabbled in old fashioned rhyme
One looking the worst for the Seasons and three decades at least past my prime
I do not have great plans for the future i am not an ambitious man
And the only ambition that i have is to live for as long as i can
The clock on my life it is ticking and ticking and ticking away
Still the babies who now are only one day old are one day nearer to their last day
Tis the fear of death i only do fear for to me death is forever more
And i do envy those who believe in a life beyond this Earthly Shore
I envy them their faith on their beliefs to their God they kneel for to pray
I was born with the heart of an atheist but each to their own as they say
Your average sort of a writer in an average sort of a town
One might say just good at surviving that's my only claim to renown
I do not have a God for to pray to but in that i am not alone
And I'm one who is not without sin so i will not cast the first stone.
