You Would Have Me? Poem by Raymond Farrell

You Would Have Me?

You would have me
Be less didactic?
Less direct? More romantic?
More surrealistic?
Talk through my nose perhaps
Like someone posh and educated
Or look down my nose, maybe
Be less straight forward
Play with those words
Sounds and all that nonsense
Trot out the million dollar words
I could do that
But, why I ask
Would you have me
Not speak in plain simple terms
About the problems
We all face
For what purpose am I writing
If not to make
A real and positive contribution
I am one small voice
But, if others
Would join the chorus
Our virtual inaudibleness
Could become a shout!
