You Cannot Beat Them Poem by Francis Duggan

You Cannot Beat Them

You cannot beat them they have God on their side
And to go with their God they have National pride
And of their National heroes they feel proud to sing
The lure of patriotism is a magnet like thing.

You cannot beat them they are proud of their flag
And to them that is a good reason to brag
Of how wonderful and of how superior to all others they are
You will not find their equals though you may travel far.

You cannot beat them they are a superior race
The colours of their Nation painted on their face
Though jubilant in victory for victory is sweet
Like children they throw a tantrum in defeat.

Though few of the names of the local wildlife they can recall
And 'tis said that pride it does come before a fall
You cannot beat them they have God on their side
And the flag of the Nation they carry with pride.
