Yesterday - My Annual......Medical Physical Poem by James B. Earley

Yesterday - My Annual......Medical Physical

....'Twas my annual physical...I didn't need a co-pay
Didn't cost me a damn cent...seeing my Doctor....today

Preaching...beware of the sodium
.....Sheer merchants...of doom
Jim...careful your selection....
Processed foods you consume

So saith my Doctor...I saw him today....
Knowledgeable fellow he is...thus proudly I say
......At least once a year....I make it a point
To seek out his wisdom...have his judgement annoint

....Or appropriately condemn
Should malfeasance he finds
...All of my ailments
May he find them benign

"You're in pretty good health
....For a man...of your age
'Tis my personal opinion
As your medical...sage"

.....'Twas my annual physical...I didn't need a co-pay
Didn't cost me a damn cent...seeing my Doctor....today

Author's note:
Visiting with my Doctor, yesterday, we chatted intermittently during the course of the examination, about medical issues, and life in general. Asking about my poetry, he inquired if I had a website. I responded "no, but my body of works may be found by simply Googling 'James B. Earley Poet." Returning to the examination, while simultaneously consulting my computerized chart, he said "take a look at this." It was a view of my poetry page at PoemHunter.com. We talked briefly about the poetry, then returning to the examination, he advised of varied medical specifics I should follow, then asked, "are there any questions? " No questions I replied, but I do have statement. What's that, he asked? I'm going home, I said, and at some point tonight or perhaps tomorrow morning, I'm composing a poem about this visit, dedicating it, my friend, to you!
