World Heart Day Poem by Ajit Das

World Heart Day

Rating: 5.0

World Heart Day! What’s it all about?
I know of human heart, animal heart,
but never heard world having a heart.
They say it is human heart, merging
with the collective heart of humanity.

But man’s duality splits his heart
into other half: the evil that remains
corralled within, always threatening
to break loose with vile designs,
feeling content with criminal intent.

The sky of the heart is sometime sunlit,
sometime dark with bellowing clouds.
It’s not enough to keep the heart happy
with cosmetic measures: health care,
laughter, beverage, relief from stress.

Hold the razing animal by its horns,
throw it away far off never to return.
Your humane heart will be a part
of the endeavour to nurture with love
and brotherhood the ‘heart of the world’.

Join the sunny ranks that survive despite the dark and bellowing hearts. Hold the razing animal by its horns. Yes indeed.
