Working Poem by Aparna Chatterjee

Working

Come
Rain
Or shine
They keep
Working
All the time

Who?

The builders
Building
Houses of
Yours and
Mine

(thinking of the daily wage earners in India who keep slogging to build palatial homes, shopping malls and complexes; working day and night, moving from one construction site to another, making those unfinished structures their temporary homes till their completion, and then moving on to build new houses and high-rise buildings. In a way, they are nomads, living a nomadic life, shifting from one building site to another, with no permanent home.)

Short and sweet poem. Very true said, daily wage earners lead a nomadic life, keep on changing places to places. They don't have home while they build others home. I loved the theme Aparna. Thanks for sharing.
