'Wish Greenpeace Were Here

A graveyard of stoic soldiers:
Charred carcasses of Baobabs
Scarred bodies of wrinkled Palms
Vanquished with flaming swords;
Victims of a war sparked by greed.
Scavengers trample scorched herbs:
A mad rush for a heap for pittance,
Hewing and huffing and celebrating.
Sombre clouds waft across listlessly,
Blindfolded moon beams reluctantly,
Trilling sounds of the night silenced,
The curtain drawn on trapeze shows.
Barren spoil is etched by the invaders,
Un-green fingers scourging the earth
Sowing steel and concrete behemoths;
A wanton barter of habitat for habitat.
