Wildlife At Prince William Sound Poem by Dr Ronnie Bai

Wildlife At Prince William Sound

Sits aloft on the top of Sitka spruce
The silent sentry bald eagle to effuse
Safe haven for his precious followers —
The grooming loons on th' emerald waters,
Ruby-beaked puffins wobbling for their groves,
Blue herons wading in the sapphire coves,
Onyx cormorants stretching wings on rocks,
Topaz kittiwakes gliding in flickering flocks,
Murres and Surf Scoters fat as tourmaline
Loitering along the opal shoreline …

All birds are more precious than gemstones here
And th' safeguarding bald eagle has no fear —
For far and near the Bering Seas travails
The giant fleet of humpbacks and killer whales,
And fortressing th' harbour mouth are sea lions
Whose roaring is joined by grizzly bear alliance.

Isn't it a richest and safest haven?
Yeah! Also hopefully man's safe heaven.
