Wild Pets Poem by Palitha Ranatunge

Wild Pets

Rating: 5.0

hedgehog, Kingfisher, whistling duck, mongoose, and wild cat
thy refuge in my back yard
- an abandoned paddy field
I can only grant you a temporary stay permit
until my death.
You will be banished by then
at the will
of my descendants,
the green will be wiped out.
wild labeled friends,
you can not be converted to
domestic pets even if you wish
- What use one has then
When has taken out from your wild freedom.

So true. We cannot expect our descendants to continue our noble endeavors. Perceptive and well expressed write.
