Why I Loved You Poem by Andrew Herrera

Why I Loved You

The earth beneath me shifted
the moment that I met you
and somehow I knew that
my life would never be
the same —
It would never
be as boring or as
childlike as it was
because you were older —
a high school boy.
To me, you seemed perfect —
an athlete, so your body
was sculpted perfectly,
as it should be
and your thick
hair, the color of sand
draped, just a bit, over
your eyes, the color of a
soft green pasture.
Your eyes had a
certain affect on me.
As soon as you looked
at me, I was reduced
to a deep puddle of
excitement and ecstasy
and you knew it —
you knew it all too well.
But as we grew closer
your beauty — though
still a heavy weight —
It became just a
secondary reason of
why I loved you.
I loved you because of
The way you touched me —
Because of the way you
made me laugh
made me smile
made me happy.
I loved you because of
The way you said that
You loved me.
Your eyes would get serious,
but with a grin painting
your perfect face and
your deep, but loving voice
would send waves of happiness
though my entire body
and you would caress my cheek
with your fingers and
release those three words

I Love You
