Whispered Truth Poem by Cameron Gallant

Whispered Truth

A dull whisper from the wind
Telling a deep secret to hickory
When its leaves are ripe and trunk is cool
Begins the origin of a mystery

Why green and bright and given life
But one day set to leave
To take the trust of someone else
Then betray through ice and sleet

To die from this, sure is sure
Then kin they sprout and grow
To clothe his fingers, to help stand
Until betrayed in ice again
