When The Clock Stops! Poem by Namratha Swamy

When The Clock Stops!

The ticking of the little clock
filled the noisy room
seeming so loud,
like a galloping horse
on a lonely road,
past into the night
challenging their peace
as they stood facing each other
years later
Time seemed to freeze!

Both were about to say something
but only looked at each other and then turned away.
Though the tears rose in her almond-shaped eyes
she told herself not to sway!
His heart ached to take her hands in his,
but he held himself back with an animated hiss!

Time ticked and her heart stopped beating,
as the loud music in the room filled the air
and for a faint second she wished he would never leave,
but there he went.

Her world changed
andthe sound of the clock grew fainter
as she whispered in the darkness, "when the clock stops, I shall die."
