What Will Happen Next? Poem by Rose Jones

What Will Happen Next?

What will happen
When we use up our luck
When the world will
Finally get us all
What will happen then?

What will happen
When the worlds children
Are blinded by their fate,
Thinking only of the way
They live
What will happen then?

There are children
Out in this world
That you do not see
That you do not even hear of
If something happens to them,
What will happen next?

You are a person
A great wonder of life
You, as a person, can do things
Don't have to rely on anything
But if you don't do something,
What will happen next?

You, sitting here,
Reading my poem
Right here on that computer
Could do something
But because you sit there,
What will happen next?

The people in this world
Are pining
And if you believe,
Just for a second,
That you are better,
That is wrong
Because if you were them,
What would happen next?

On the cover of the New York Times,
A boy is crying
A person said to me:
What a stupid child
I replied:
What if you were there?
What would happen next?

There are people
You can not see
You can not hear
Because they can't speak out
But if they could,
What would happen next?

Time will slowly
Gurgle on like a river
The current dirtied with mud and rocks
Be the one who cleans them out
If you do, Think about
What will happen next
