What Was Yours Poem by Ellen Ni Bheachain

What Was Yours

What was yours was there when I left,
We left you there,
While we went back,
I know you knew that,
And so, did they,

They took it all,
And went out as you,
With all you had done,
They claimed that too,

Yet,
The avoided me,
As I knew,
What was yours,
And all you had done,
But I went home,
To where I was from,
Not knowing they would claim what's yours,

So, what was yours,
Is still today,
Yet, what they sold,
Belonged to you,
And all your work,
They tried to claim it too,

I understand now,
Why you are so protective,
Guarding all close around you,
And suspecting many,
For what was yours,
Is still today,
They could never explain,
Your works and adventures.
