What Am I? Poem by Margo Posh

What Am I?

I grew up amidst the sunshine -
Beating on my skin,
Everything was fine, until -
The day, I was dumped, in a bin!

I wasn't on my own long -
My friends were dumped there too,
The start of a terrible journey -
Bringing me over to you!

Transfered from Bin to Wooden Box -
Wrapped in tissue paper,
Don't be fooled by what you're told -
It really is a caper!

I couldn't move, it was so tight -
My friends squashed by my side,
I felt that I might soon become -
A victim of this ride!

At journey's end, the lid came off -
There was so much more in store -
They started throwing me around,
I couldn't take much more!

I prayed that someone nice and kind,
Might fancy me in part, and
With this very thought in mind -
It really gave me heart!

Alas, I saw it coming -
As the hand came down on me, and
Started peeling at my skin,
I knew my destiny!

I tried to keep myself in tact,
With juice I held on tight - but
The sight of the white pearly teeth -
Indeed, confirmed my plight!

I knew I was a gonna -
Ebbing on life's outer fringe -
If only you knew, the pain I've gone through,
For being - a Juicy Orange! : -)
