We Wish Light Poem by Romella Kitchens

We Wish Light

"We Wish Light"

1.
We wish light.
But, all around is darkened man.
He performs rituals of self-hatred.

His chalice and altars are the city
streets.

His candle is the flare of the drug
pipe and the fire bomb.

His night is the same as his day…
Continuous siege.
Interconnected violence and deceit.
Rest never takes him over, not peace,
Introspective thought sans dogma…
They are the wolves at his door.

2.
The bitter root, the culling in societal pots.
If it is sweetened what will be central in
the dynamic of those who need a force
against them?
A fulcrum of hate?

3.

There have been red birds this season and cancers
and illnesses…People with no home - needing, longing.
The counting of birds a cruel indiscretion here.
A statistic not as important as a "hobby" of
sustaining life.

4.
The love poem of the world is only beginning.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
As a poet I have decided to write poetry that deals with peace upon a regular basis. I have no certainty of their impact but believe what must be said will be said. This poem also speaks about love. in my perspective, they often share the same road.
