We Attended The Lunch Poem by RIC BASTASA

We Attended The Lunch

we attended
the lunch
tendered by Paul, who is celebrating
his 50th birthday today

as tradition says it
he has fifty cooked chicken eggs
in the basket
and all are taken

roasted pig is at the center of the table,
and fried chicken and goat paklay, a delicacy
of herbs and spices,

i got my fill
and satisfaction and then the red
california wine made my day
got red cheeks and a loquacious spirit
as the dining room was filled with
jokes and laughter

such a life, and i pity those who stayed
in the office and keep on working
it would have been a moment of
joy, a break in the monotony of living,
and yet they deny themselves that

it is an option and we took the
happier option
being with people, sharing lives,
bonding moments
of happiness which shall be part
of this tapestry
in fact, God's way of caring for us
free food, laughter and
divination.
