We Are Strangers - A Song Poem by Peter S. Quinn

We Are Strangers - A Song

We are strangers in paradise
To every footstep he walked
Every flower is a disguise
In the way that he talked
There comes a day I remember
Every kindness grows from love
Just like shades in September
And the sky ensign above

We are strangers to love songs
Though we try as we can
Our own are just sing-alongs
Those have a moment's lifespan
What we do and have yet done
Into the instants just go
Like a flower from sunshine's shone
Our grass still stays low

We are strangers to our own heart
Feelings that within abide
Our existence makes us start
In each other's shadow ride
