We are not going
to see anything
change for the better
overall
until we understand
the misguided notion
put forth by the first settlers
that the land was something
to be tamed
instead of something
to be nurtured
and lived on
in harmony with
the natural environment
was wrong
and should
no longer be extolled

One realizes
they did not fully understand
the long term consequences
of their actions
but we do
and should not mythologize
past mistakes
but should learn
not to repeat them.
