Was It We? Poem by Keenan Harris

Was It We?

Look, I resigned myself a long time ago.
I gave you my word that I would never let you go,
you trusted me; I trusted we.
Who was it that gave up, was it you or me?

I loved you more than life itself you see,
to me, you were more than a memory.
Of things long past, and shameful sins,
that crept on up and raged like a storm within.

I resigned myself a long time ago.
I gave you my word that I would never let you go,
you trusted me; I trusted we.
Who was it that gave up, was it you or me?

Who was it that helped you gain recognition
of my intial intentions
to reveal to you all of my affections?

This flow's infectious, babygirl,
even though we just talkin'
You still need to be cautious and use protection.
Otherwise find yourself impregnated by a case of
lyrical and poetic injection; you listenin'?

I resigned myself a long time ago.
I gave you my word that I would never let you go,
you trusted me; I trusted we.
Who was it that gave up, was it you or me?

Or better yet was it we?
I mean, think back on all the days that we'd seemed
to be, less than friends and more like enemies.
It seems, to me, that we had grown apart gradually.
I guess you could say it waas never meant to be,
but, you know what; I enjoyed the time you spent with me.
Do you agree?

Tell me. What do YOU think, because we both know that we did have SOMETHING.
Even if it was once upon a time; it's a shame that all that time can be sum'd up in just one line.

So look, I resigned myself a long time ago.
I gave you my word that I would never let you go,
you trusted me; I trusted we.
Who was it that gave up, was it you or me?

I resigned myself a long time ago.
I gave you my word that I would never let you go,
you trusted me; I trusted we.
Who was it that gave up, was it you or me?
