Was It In A Dream I Met You Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Was It In A Dream I Met You

Was it in a dream I met you?
Your face that I've always known
the soft lines of your cheeks
whose memory comforts me when I'm alone

You, whose beautiful dark eyes
reach right into my soul
You're the only woman
who makes me feel whole

Those eyes so hurting
so soflty yearning
for love
Inside I feel it turning

You're soft lips sublime
stay on my mind
as beautiful and full
gentle, graceful and kind

My darling you are softness
like a bouquet of flowers fine
and its the little things about you
that linger on my mind

For me you've greeted so gently
like the heavens greet the sky
I know your heart's been injured before
I know that's the reason you shy

Ana, every little thing about you
I don't know the reason why
I have a sense that without you
I will lose my will to live, then die

In dreams we walk freely
and spend such wonderful times
I wish I could be with you one day
instead of just in rhymes

What matters most in life
is to learn from our regret
to be in love with someone dear
may be the closest to Heaven we get

I've had other lovers
dear friends have come and gone
even my children have moved on
and left me all alone

But you Ana
You let me in
when I needed something to believe
and now my wounded heart just cannot leave

These tears I cry this moment
they're the only thing I've got
that can't be sold or bought
and it hurts so that you want them not

Ana, you hate this word
as if its a sin
I feel Love for you
Please let me in

Was it in a dream I met you?
Your face that I've always known
the soft lines of your cheeks
whose memory comforts me when I'm alone
